DATA-BACKED TOOL

Tonight Stargazing Checker

Enter a city to estimate tonight's sky quality from cloud cover, surface visibility, Moon illumination and whether astronomical darkness is available. This is guidance, not a guarantee.

CRAWLABLE TOOL EXPLANATION

What the checker returns

A live result shows the requested place, a planning score, current cloud cover and humidity, surface visibility, estimated transparency and seeing, Moon phase and illumination, and local astronomical dusk when available.

LOW CLOUDUsually favorable

Opaque cloud is normally the first constraint.

BRIGHT MOONChange targets

Prefer the Moon, planets and bright stars over faint galaxies.

NO ASTRONOMICAL DARKNESSExpect twilight

This can occur at high latitudes during summer.

These are interpretation examples, not live conditions. The live result is requested from Open-Meteo after submission. See the calculation methodology.

How the score works

The score combines current cloud cover, humidity, surface visibility, estimated transparency, estimated seeing, calculated Moon illumination and local astronomical dusk. It intentionally avoids false precision: local lamps, smoke, terrain and sudden clouds can change the result.
